Tábor is more than a history-book chapter about Jan Žižka. It is a lively, energetic town with one of the most beautiful historic centres in the country. From Chateau Radvanov, it is only a 20-minute drive, which makes it ideal for an afternoon outing or a full day away. Here is what you should not miss.
Park the car and explore the winding lanes around Žižka Square on foot. The houses stand shoulder to shoulder, every façade is different, and the ground floors are home to lovely little cafés and galleries.

You have to experience this for yourself. A network of passageways runs beneath the square, linking the cellars of the old burghers’ houses. The tour is fascinating and just a little eerie. You will learn how beer was stored here in the past, and how residents once sheltered from fires.
For the best views over the town and the Lužnice River, climb Kotnov Tower — the only surviving tower of the original castle. Right next door is Bechyně Gate, which houses an exhibition about life in the Middle Ages.

If you are travelling with children — or you simply love sweet things — this is a must. You will find a chocolate statue of Jaromír Jágr, marzipan fairy-tale models, and a workshop where you can make something of your own.

Tábor is home to Jordán, the oldest reservoir in Central Europe. A walk along the waterfront, or a quiet pause on a bench by the waterfall below the dam, is the perfect way to end a busy day.
Tábor will leave you pleasantly tired in the best possible way. Back at Chateau Radvanov, we will make sure you can truly unwind in comfort.
